Choose Your Favorite Countertop Edge Treatment

One of the most important ways you can customize your kitchen or bathroom countertop is the edge. Our edges add the perfect texture to bring together your countertop and the rest of your home. We offer a variety of edges and will help you find the right one for your project. Ultimately, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The best look is the one that makes you feel the best.

Flat Edge

Another simplistic edge finish is the flat edge. It’s a great choice because is never goes out of fashion making it perfect for modern and traditional style bathrooms and kitchens alike. It’s not trying to be something flashy that it’s not. It’s just simple, flat, and here to stay.

Eased Edge

The eased edge, or “straight polish”, is the most straightforward edge treatment. It leaves your countertop edge almost perfectly square, polished just enough to remove the sharpness and make it safer.

Half Bullnose Edge

The hall bullnose edge is a fairly traditional countertop edge, rounded on top and flat on the bottom. It’s safer for kids and matches the style of homes with lots of rounded edges. This finish helps give the edge a robust, thick appearance.

Ogee Edge

The ogee is a classic and elegant countertop edge. It’s basically a large concave groove on top curved into the bottom. “Oh gee, that’s one good looking countertop edge!” No really, that’s how it got its name.

Bevel Edge

This is when the top of the countertop edge is subtly cut off at a 45-degree angle. You can adjust the size of the bevel cut to your liking. At Explore Kitchens, we can also modify the angle of the cut, making it more obtuse or acute. (Because who wouldn’t like “acute” little angle!)

Custom Stone Countertops
in Northern Virginia

New kitchen countertops come in all kinds of stone material,
available in a wide variety of colors, styles, shapes, and sizes.
Whatever you have in mind for your stone kitchen or bathroom
countertop, here the types of stone countertops we keep in supply.

Quartz Countertops

Quartz countertops are produced from pure natural quartz, one of the hardest minerals on Earth. Small amounts of glass, polymer resin, and color powder are added to give it an even more magnificent finish. We carry marble alternative looking quartz countertops in unique patterns, styles, and colors that resemble real marble.

An added benefit of quartz is that it is non-porous. This makes it naturally stain and bacterial resistant without the regular application of sealants or waxes. Similarly to granite, quartz comes in several price tiers, sometimes referred to as groups or levels.

Marble Countertops

Marble is a metamorphic stone formed when sediment crystallizes under (you guessed it) great heat and pressure. Even though it’s a stone, it’s not as hard as most others. For this reason, marble countertops require more maintenance than our other stone countertops. To keep it looking pristine, you should seal it every six months. Many homeowners prefer the look of an aged marble surface, that has etched and stains from its years. Marble countertops come in two finishes.

Honed Finish

A honed finish is when the surface is sanded down, leaving it flat, soft, and consistent. Think of it as the “matte” option. This finish prevents scratches from showing up as much and leaves it looking lighter than the polished finish.

Polished Finish

The polished marble finish leaves your countertops highly reflective. This shiny exterior showcases the colors and character of your counters a bit better. Although it is stain resistant, you have to be careful about scratching it.

Quartzite Countertops

Quartzite is an exotic, naturally occurring metamorphic rock, created when sandstone is subjected to extreme heat and pressure. It’s stunning appearance can mimic that of marble, but it is even more durable (it’s more durable than granite, too, for that matter).

Quartzite countertops are best suited for areas that experience lots of wear and tear. Due to its combination of strength and beauty, however, quartzite is an excellent choice for any countertop. It will look fantastic for years in any room of your home.

Natural Stone Countertops

Natural stone countertops come in different levels based on how unique the colors and designs are on the stone. The level of granite does not influence its properties. All granite is incredibly durable, scratch-resistant, and able to withstand high temperatures.

Levels 1-2 Granite

Most people tend to work with Level 1 or 2 granite. This is because even though they’re technically the lowest grades, they’re still high-quality, durable and look great. This makes them one of the most affordable high-quality stone countertops out there.

Levels 3+ Granite

Granite goes up to level 5, 6, and even seven. Each level is progressively more unique in their patterns and colors. Think of it like buying a work of art. It costs more when the piece you have is an original. When you get a granite countertop with a high level, you truly have a unique piece of stone that your neighbors will envy.
